FALSE TRUST is Onto the Editing Phase!

by | Sep 12, 2021 | Writing | 0 comments

I am excited to let you know that I have completed the first draft of FALSE TRUST. It comes in at 98,000 words, but I expect it will shrink to about 92,000 after editing. I am planning on making a number of different editing passes. One of the critical edits is listening to the text and improving the dialog after hearing it spoken. I will initially be using the text-to-speech capability of Scrivener to do this. Then I will use my second screen or iPad to read FALSE TRUST as a reader, which is quite a unique experience and different when writing and editing. You pick things up you would otherwise miss when editing within Scrivener. Hence, I use the second screen for that.

I have self-edited and had professionally edited my non-fiction works, but this is the first time I am self-editing a novel before turning it over to a professional editor to complete. There are several sizeable differences when editing a novel, and the biggest one is to do with making sure the dialog is natural. Hence, the reason for reading the dialog out loud and making sure it is not too formal.

Help with Editing Fiction

An outstanding book to help me prepare for the editing process is Self-Editing for Fiction Writers by Renni Browne and Dave King. It has really help me with editing works of fiction. If you are writing a novel and looking to prepare for the self-editing step, this is a worthwhile read, and highly recommended!

FALSE TRUST Release Plans

I am targeting to finish the self-editing process by early December when I plan to turn it over to the professional editor for structural and content editing. Then she will do copy and line editing in early January. I will keep you posted on my progress and how it is going!

FALSE TRUST is planned for publication on 1 April 2022. Presale links will be coming soon.
